HISTORY OF PANAMA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
In the year 1996 there were about 100,000 first generation Chinese in Panama with only two evangelical churches which preached the gospel in the Chinese language. One was found in Panama City and the other in Colon. There were less than 100 members in both congregations combined, both functioning under the name Panama Chinese Christian Mission (Mision Cristiana China de Panama)..
During the Easter retreat of 1996 these two churches created the 2000/2000 vision. This vision consisted of witnessing to and discipline 2000 people (especially Chinese) by the year 2000..
To fulfill this vision there were 5 goals that contributed to making this vision a reality. Amongst these goals, one was the creation of an evangelical school. This is how, in the year 1998, we started a test program called "After School Classes" and also an English program for adults..
In 1999, the proceedings began and the request was made to the Ministry of Education for the creation of the Panama Christian Academy. A company was established under the name of Panama Christian Academy. Also during this time, we were working on the proposal and curriculum designed to be submitted to the Ministry of Education. However, the year 2000 came and went, and the application stayed within the Ministry of Education. It took 2 years for the Ministry of Education to give its approval on the curriculum design and grant us the order so that PCA could officially start its classes. In December 2001, in a meeting, it was agreed that if we received approval from the Ministry of Education by January 31, 2002, that same year we would start with the Academy.
That year, 2002, Panama Christian Academy was officially started with 27 students in grades K4, K5 and 1st grade. It was an exciting year, as well stressful. We had 2 English teachers, 1 Spanish and 1 Chinese, as well as administrative staff and janitors. First, we want to thank our Almighty God who has allowed us to reach where we are now. We know PCA is here because God wants us to be here. We thank also parents who have trusted in PCA as an educational alternative for their kids. Also to our students who are willing to learn what we have to give them. To our teachers and coworkers for the "extra mile" they have given us for the honor and glory of our Lord.
